Chinese New Year
Yup! Chinese New Year 2011 came and left. Having born and breed in Kuala Lumpur, with parents and relatives all born and breed in Kuala Lumpur, grandfolks are from Canton, China though, chinese festivities like CNY are fully celebrated in Kuala Lumpur.
When I was a kid, I will go between my parents house and my maternal grandma's house for CNY. They are both 20mins walk away anyway. ;-) Firecrackers were a 'hit' back then, fireworks on the other hand was a very exclusive and rare treat, unlike nowadays, come a major holiday and everywhere, I do mean everywhere in KL are treated to a display of fireworks, each lasting 20 mins or more.
My CNY holidays, are pretty much routine for the past 10 years ;
- Eve, reunion dinner at parent's, 45 mins tops, then back to my own place, watch some tv, each some CNY goodies, place chair on balcony, vodka lime on on hand .. sipping slowly, and if not sleepy, wait for the midnight fireworks
- 1st day of CNY, wake up according to my own fancy, shower, drive to parent's, serve them tea with super long and elaborate wishes, collect any pow from them, eat a vegetarian meal, drive back to my own place, all in 30 mins or less
- 2nd day of CNY, alone at my own place
- 3rd day of CNY, lunch and dinner at parent's to toss yee sang
- 4th day till work commences, alone at my own place
Fun eh?
